Duke-In programs

If you are accepted to a “Duke-In” study abroad program, you must complete the Duke-In Study Abroad form.  We receive program budget information from the Study Abroad office.  Please note: your calculated academic year family contribution will not change for study abroad.  If you would like to receive a disbursement of financial aid funds earlier than scheduled fund disbursement (approximately one week before classes begin), you should complete and submit the Study Away Financial Aid Disbursement Request.

Duke-In New York, Duke-In LA, Howard/Spelman Exchange

If you are accepted to a “Duke-In” domestic program (Duke in NY, Duke in LA, Howard/Spelman Exchange), you must complete the Duke-In Study Abroad form.  We receive program budget information from the coordinating Duke administrative office and the host university.  Please note: your calculated academic year family contribution will not change for Duke-in domestic programs.  If you would like to receive a disbursement of financial aid funds earlier than scheduled fund disbursement (approximately one week before classes begin), complete and submit the Study Away Financial Aid Disbursement Request.

Non-Duke Study Abroad Programs

If you are accepted to a non-Duke study abroad program, you must complete the following steps to have your financial aid award revised for your semester abroad:
Complete and submit the Duke University Study Abroad Consortium Agreement. Section II must be completed by your Duke Academic Advisor, and Section III must be completed by the Host University. Once we receive the Consortium Agreement, we will confirm the program budget and adjust your aid for your semester abroad.  The Duke Study Abroad fee will be included in the budget.  You will receive your revised award notice via email.  Please note: your calculated academic year family contribution will not change for study abroad.

If you would like to receive a disbursement of financial aid funds earlier than scheduled fund disbursement (approximately one week before classes begin), complete and submit the Study Abroad Financial Aid Disbursement Request.

Summer Study Abroad

Need-based financial aid is available for Duke-In summer study abroad programs only.  Summer study abroad applicants should submit all materials through the Study Abroad Office, which coordinates with the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid will automatically revise your financial aid award, and your student budget will reflect the standard budget amounts provided by the Study Abroad Office.  For more information regarding summer study abroad and how to apply, visit Duke Study Abroad.

Summer Earnings Requirement

Some students may be eligible to have their summer earnings requirement (also known as the Student Contribution) for the academic year replaced with grant funds, depending on their summer activities. Such activities include attendance in summer school or study abroad, participation in a summer DukeEngage program, or some internships directly related to a student’s course of study. For application requirements see Grant Replacement of Summer Earnings.
