Reginaldo Howard Memorial ScholarshipFamily and friends established the Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship in 1976 in memory of Reggie Howard, the first African- American President of the Associated Students of Duke University (now Duke Student Government). A sophomore political science major, Reggie was returning to Duke from his Columbia, S.C., home when he was killed in an automobile accident. Reginaldo Howard Scholars receive full tuition for four years. Candidates are among the best students of African heritage who apply to Duke University. Past scholars have been in the top percentiles of their graduating classes, demonstrated a substantial commitment to community service and embodied the spirit of leadership, integrity, and community-mindedness associated with Howard's memory. For more information, see the Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship web site. |
