Primary Care Loans
(Medical Students Only)
A Primary Care loan is a 5 percent fixed-rate loan for medical students with demonstrated financial need who plan to practice primary care medicine. Recipients are required to practice primary care medicine until the loan is fully paid.
The program is funded through an annual federal allocation, institutional funds, and payments made by recent borrowers. Interest does not accrue during enrollment, grace and deferment periods. Primary Care Loans are campus-based, which means the loans are administered by and repaid to the Duke School of Medicine. Eligibility and award amounts are determined by the school's financial aid office based on the availability of funds.
